Day 2

Someone I've been closest with the longest

Well, it used to be Kaylah. We were friends for over 20 years, but sadly, we no longer are, and I havent the slightest idea what I did to upset her. I wrote more about that HERE if you'd like to read more on our falling out. As bitter as I am that things ended the way they did with us, I still care a lot about her, and our 20+ year friendship still puts her as the person that I've been the closest with the longest, so here are some of the random pictures we have from over the years :D

We were in the same kindergarten class... played baseball together... were girl scouts together... were inseparable senior year... were room mates for 3/4 of college... and she pledged my sorority... after college we kind of went our separate ways, but it wasnt until recently that we became unfriendly :(

Sooooo, this is kind of scandalous, but I'll tell ya'll anyway. Our sorority has a tradition which we call Senior Sours (other sororities call it senior send-off) Well, the nice alumni before us came up with this embarrassing tradition which involved these ridiculous crowns, a heart with the Greek letters of the frat guys you've hooked up with, and a bar crawl on a Sunday afternoon. These are the seniors from my bar crawl. I'm on the end looking like a loon with the crown over my eyes. You can see my skanktastic pledge sister on the other side with about 23905493485 Greek letters on her heart. EWW :P

We played dress up on more than one occasion

Visiting a friend at her college

Thats lipgloss in my cleavage. lol

Back when we were all tanorexic

This is one of my fav pics of myself. Its from about 2 years ago. I'm currently having an internal debate with myself on whether to grow my hair out long like this again, or hack it off for the summer. Decisions, decisions!

10 Facts

1. I was born in Upstate NY, in a pretty small town. I laugh every time I tell someone I'm from NY, and they automatically reply with "I LOVE NYC," to which I have to reply that I live closer to Canada than to NYC. lol.
2. We're planning on living in a log cabin when we retire
3. My handwriting changes all the time... especially my a's. Sometimes I will write a word and both of the a's in the word will be different
4. I love pasta more than I should... I'm sure it's the cause of all the weight of put on over the years
5. I've read entire books in one day on more than one occasion. If I find a really good book, and can not convince myself to put it down.
6. This is my 4th year teaching. I started when I was 21, fresh out of college.
7. Everything about bad teeth/losing teeth skeeves me out to the point of gagging. Any time one of my students come to me with a tooth that they've just lost I want to vomit.
8. My favorite students are normally the biggest handfuls
9. I'm afraid to drive over bridges and through tunnels. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel almost caused me to hyperventilate.
10. I would love to paint a mural. I'm toying with the idea of painting a "window" on my wall with an Italian country side scene similar to the ones you see in Italian restaurants.

Great Read & Spring Cleaning

google images

If you've been following my blog for a while, you know I love everything about horses, ESPECIALLY the idea of rescuing neglected horses. AND I love kids. This book is about an ex-special ops soldier working on a ranch for neglected horses, that works with troubled youths. How can it get much better than that?! Throw in a little romance, and serial killer, and it's pretty much one of the best books I've ever read... and the best part is I picked this book up on a whim at Dollar General for $3 because it had horses on the cover!! If I ever won the lottery, the first thing I would do was by a huge ranch somewhere and take in any/all of the neglected animals I could find.

Now that its already in the mid 70's at 12:30 in the afternoon, I've finished this fantastic book, I've already gotten some cute sunny photos of my fur children (sadly the smaller 3, not the horses... but I'm hoping to head out there tomorrow, even though I was just there on Thurs, if the hubs ever decides to wake up. He's got 24hr motorpool duty today) and I'm sans the hubs for the day, I've got all my windows open and it's time for a SERIOUS spring cleaning :)

I'll be back to post pics of the fur critters later. I've got a hysterical one of little 12lb Miley flying after 40lb Ty like she's going to rip his throat out. lol

New job?!

This year:
I have 16 students (I started with 20)
I get paid roughly 1,800 after taxes & whatnot
I teach 180 days

Projection for next year
I will have 35 students
I will get paid roughly 1,500 after taxes
I will teach 215 days

If this happens, they will be getting my letter of resignation

On a funny note... my class has 2 tables at lunch. For the entire year it's been 1 table for the boys, and 1 table for the girls. Today, a boy sat at our girl table, and a girl sat at the boy table... the hormones are raging!! But the flirting is adorable. Like today one of the girls took the lone boy's applesauce, then he threw his napkin at her :)

But I worked hard todayyyyyy

Lately, the hubs has been driving me C-R-A-Z-Y! He's been coming home late from work, which equally him thinking it's his RIGHT to be a slob. Clothes everywhere, dishes not being scraped/rinsed before being tossed in the sink, walking through the whole house with muddy boots on, etc. Granted, I understand that he is tired. I've been there. But the fact that he thinks just because he has been working long & hard he gets to be a complete and utter slob. Maybe if I didn't work, I wouldn't be so pissy about it, but I work too, and the last thing I want to do is clean up after him with his sense of entitlement. I've threatened to smother him with a pillow more than once this week...

Now he's been in the field since Friday night, and won't be home until later this week. The house is so quiet without him chattering away to no one/anyone that will listen, that I'd ALMOST rather have him making a mess in the house I just cleaned... ALMOST. he he

Are any other ladies going to be without their S/O's on V-Day? Are you doing anything, or just going to act like it's any other day?

I rescind my last post

I am not trying to be a professional photographer. I was helping out in a friend of a friend situation. I wasn't trying to say that I am better than anyone else. Just commenting on the fact that I couldn't comprehend how someone with a professional website charging $400 for weddings could show up with a point-and-shoot camera calling themselves a professional.

That is all.
Sorry I ruffled feathers.

Happy 1st Birthday James

Up too early!

I stayed up til 23:00 last night to make sure the hubs got up, and off to the field since he likes to turn his alarm off. lol. I was up before 06:00 this morning. Yick!! I guess it's a good thing, since I need to get a bunch of stuff done today. But the main thing on my list is heading off to BestBuy(Which doesnt open until 10:00) to get a back-up battery for my camera.

I'm shooting a 1st birthday today, and the father told me he expects it to last at least 2hrs. That's longer than most of the other shoots I've done, so I want to be prepared to take lots of adorable munchkin pictures. I've already dumped my camera card and now it's all set to hold 1,700 pictures on the highest quality setting. lol Plus, it's at a Japanese restaurant here in town, so I'm sure that I will be getting some super cool pictures of their fancy tricks, which will be fun.

Well, I suppose I should shower and get motivated. Hopefully I'll be back on tonight to post a cool picture or two to share with you lovelies :)

Blog Award

Pretty Ms. Victoria left me this lovely award which made my day because I've been feeling like POO lately. I love my little kiddos, don't get me wrong, but I do NOT like their germs. lol

I have to write 7 random things about me, and tag 15 people.

1. I write on my hand to remember things... pretty much any time you see me, I will have something scribbled on my hand. Good thing I dont have ink poisoning yet ;)
2. I'm totally a hoarder. I can't get rid of perfectly good things. Especially clothes that I havent worn in ages... just in case I might want to wear it some day. Oh, and craft supplies!!
3. I love to cook, but I really dislike baking.
4. I used to work at a horse race track where I would shake my little hiney so the old guys would give me tips since we worked for $42 a day before taxes.
5. I can make a clover/sea shell shape with my tongue.
6. I will own a horse ranch one day.
7. I want to go to California for a week so I can be a dog walker for Tia on Pitbulls & Parolees

And I'm tagging any one who hasn't gotten this lovely award yet... which is a total cop out, but I'm about to take some Theraflu and crawl under the covers for the rest of the night :)

Elephant Toothpaste and a SURPRISE

Friday was an AWESOME day at work. It was one of those days when it makes the crappy pay, long hours, and paperwork all worth it!!

In the morning I overheard one of my students saying "I want to be a teacher when I grow up. I'm going to be just like Mrs. _________" It totally melted my heart. Especially b/c he's one of my lowest students. He had a really rough year last year with a teacher who didn't really care for him... so he wasn't getting the help he needed. He's doing SOOO much better this year, and I feel beyond proud that it's because I'm motivating him to do his best.

On Friday afternoons we have clubs. I immediately decided I wanted to run the science club, because it's my all time favorite subject. Last year, I had more kids pass the science End Of Grade Test than any of the other classes (including the academically gifted class!!) This past Friday we made elephant toothpaste. If any of my readers have kids who like science, this is a super fun experiment, and it was pretty cheap too. You can go HERE to watch the video and get instructions.

They're touching it b/c it's an exothermic reaction, so it gives off heat!!

And the SURPRISE!! How many of ya'll have watched those videos on facebook where the deployed family member comes home & surprises someone? Well I got to see it first hand! All week D_____ has been telling me that his dad can't get on Skype any more because he's switching bases. He was sad because he wouldnt be able to see him anymore, just talk on the phone. Well during clubs mom came in looking for him. When he saw his dad, he immediately started sobbing. It was so sad, but so amazing to be a part of. He really had no idea that his dad was coming home!!

Wee Bits & My New Crack

{one} what was your favorite sitcom growing up?
Saved by the Bell... hands down. OBSESSED

{two} what song always makes you happy when you hear it?
Cowboy Take Me Away

{three} do you still have your wisdom teeth?
Nope. Sure don't. I'm also missing 4 other adult teeth. I have a small mouth apparently, and I couldnt hold them all

{four} what is your go to way to relax?
Reading!! (see below. lol)

{five} do you play any instruments?
Nope. I took Violin for a year, but the instructor was a crazy old coot, so I quit.

{six} nude beaches: yes or no?
No one wants to see this naked

{seven} do you chew your pens/pencils?
Not any more. I had to break myself of the pen cap chewing since who knows which kiddos in my class have touched the pen with their germy fingers

{eight} can you change the oil in your car?
Could, and would are two totally different things! lol.

{nine} can you curl your tongue?
Sure can... I can also make it into a clover shape. Maybe one of these days I'll post a picture.

{ten} can you knit or crochet?
I can crochet. I used to help my mom make lap blankets all the time for a retirement home. She used to work for the phone company before she retired, and they would do it at their desks while they were on the phone helping customers, then donate them to the elderly.

New crack:
I've put down my "grown-up" book (in the middle of reading it) because I've become obsessed with these books:

(google images)

Yep, I said it. I cannot stop reading them. I started reading the first one last Friday, but didnt have a chance to get into it. I had a super busy weekend, so I didnt pick it up again until Monday morning. Well, since then, I've finished The Lightning Thief, the Sea of Monsters, and I'm almost done with The Titans Curse. I'm super impressed that I've actually put it down to blog. Aside from when I'm teaching, I havent really stopped reading them... and at about a book a day, I should be finishing up the series by this weekend. I'm kind of bummed there are only five books. I don't remember a lot of names from learning Greek Mythology in school, but I remember a lot of what the people did, and I love predicting what's going to happen because of what I remember. The author did an awesome job!

Aside from Harry Potter, I havent really jumped on any series bandwagons, because most of the time, they stop being good after the first few. (Except for the Twilight Series. I love book 3, but I didn't really care for most of the other ones. Especially the ending of Breaking Dawn. What an anticlimactic ending!!) But I seriously cant get enough of this one!!

I've yet to see the movie, but my students who have read the series have said it's not that good. Apparently, they've left out a lot of the book. I don't think I'll rent it until I've finished all 5 :P
