No, I didn't die...

... I've just been super busy! Horray for being busy. I'd rather be busy than bored any day! lol

My last post HERE was telling ya'll about a dresser I redid. I paid $20 for the white dresser. Got some red satin Valspar spray paint, and sprayed her down. Then I used some Valspar Antiquing Glaze to dirty her up, and I finished her with these super cute knobs I got a Lowes for $0.97 each!! I loved that because this dresser has 12 knobs, and I didnt want to be shelling out $5 a piece for them. They had this great little design to them, so I rubbed some silver acrylic paint in them to bring out the design. I tried using the red to match the dresser, but with the black underneath it made it look orange... but the silver looks fantastic. Just enough to give it bring out the detail, but not enough to be distracting :)

So, for about $50, I am now the proud owner of this little beauty! I am soooo in love! It came out exactly like I was hoping.

A splash of silver

A little bit of antiquing glaze

Did I ever mention I'm obsessed with Giraffes?

Can't get enough of these .97 cent knobs!

Sanded down a little to reveal her old self

The best part is, now I don't have to hear my hubs complain that he can't see the TV from bed!

Procrastination at its finest!

I finished my TWENTY DOLLAR dresser this weekend!! I'm super excited about the way it turned out, and since it doesn't look like crap, I will be sharing the final results with ya'll! lol.

I forgot to take a picture of the dresser before I started painting it, because I was so excited to get started, but it looks just like this, without the legs... Stay tuned to see what I did with it. It's currently drying, but as soon as I can put it together, I'll be sharing it with ya'll :)

Now I need to find another crafty project to keep me from having to grade the papers I really don't want to grade. I think I might try to finish up the button necklace I started last weekend so I can share that with ya'll too :D

One more...

follower, and I'll be at 100 :)
Thanks to all my lovely bloggy friends, old & new, for sticking around and reading what I have to say.
I appreciate every one of you.
It's been a super busy week, but I'll be back soon to share my $20 dresser make-over :D (Unless it turns out like poo, then I will hang my head in shame & never mention it again. lol)

Weeeeeeeeee Bits :)

{one} name one thing you worry about running out of.
Money... I stress about it all the time. I can't stand not having a nice little cushion in my bank account, and lately little things keep popping up like crazy to deplete my account :(

{two} what is your favorite pizza topping?
Cold Cheese! In college we had this place that sold "cold cheese pizza" Yum! They take your hot slice out of the oven and glob a handful of cold motz cheese on the top. It's pretty amazing.

{three} what is your favorite harrison ford movie?
K-19 or Air Force One

{four} apple juice or orange juice?
I don't like either, but I think apple juice is grosser. I'm all about the cranberry & white grape juices :)

{five} what’s your favorite thing to do on a sunday afternoon?
Catch up on blogs, bubble bath, or just sit & relax before it's back to work

{six} what is the wallpaper on your cellphone of?
A pic of Ty's nose. He was all about getting some attention, so I snapped a pic. It's super cute!

{seven} do you have a favorite tv commercial?
I hate all commercials! That's why I have TiVo :D

{eight} what is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Lots of things... squid, octopus, buffalo, frog legs, alligator... I'll try anything once.

{nine} what is one piece of clothing you can’t live without?
Sweatpants! I love getting into a comfy pair of pants after a long day at work.

{ten} if you were a character from “lost”, who would you be?
I may sound like a total loser, but I've never watched Lost :(

"Spice" up your kitchen!

I was feeling very crafty, and thanks to MLK we had an extra day this weekend for me to get started on some projects. I have 3 that I'll be posting about, starting with this "spicy" little number! Stay tuned for more throughout the week as I put the finishing touches on the others.

This one I'm not going to link back to a specific blog since sooooo many of you that I am now following have done this with different words.

I have an Italian/wine theme to my kitchen, and I wanted to add the word Mangia! My mom's side is Italian, and it's something my Nanny says to tell us to dig in any time we're eating at her house. I had originally wanted to find a wine-themed paper, but after searching at hobby lobby, AC Moore, and Michaels, I finally settled on this spice-themed paper from JoAnn's Fabric. It worked out really well because the blue on the paper is the same blue that my walls are painted!

Here's what I did:
Gathered my supplies! Letters .99 each at Hobby Lobby & the paper was .16 each (all paper is 6 for .96 this week at JoAnn's Fabric!! Go get some if you're crafty/a scrapper)

I only painted the edges since the scrapbook paper is super thick.

I traced the letters on the back so that I could try & save some of the extra paper. I'm not sure for what yet, but I HOARD craft supplies like no other. It's getting really bad. The hubs threatens to throw away my empty jars & I feel the anxiety building. lol

Have I every mentioned how much I like Mod Podge?! Well, I do!! I used it to make THIS coach ornament for my tree. I used it as "glue" to stick the paper down, then painted 2 coats over the top since it was super thick scrapbook paper

Made sure it was nice and stuck!

Isn't this the cutest paper for kitchen crafts?! And the blue is the same color as my walls!!

Then I used a razor blade to cut off the extra paper, and Voila! My master piece was complete! I'm not sure if you can tell, but I alternated my paper so the words weren't all going in the same direction. I knew if I tried to do them all one way, and they weren't all straight then it would drive me bananas. lol.

Wee Bit is baaaaack :)

{one} have you ever been on tv?
I have... back in elementary school the local news taped us singing for our winter concert, then replayed it through the holiday season. I even had a close up :)

{two} what was the best movie you saw last year?
The Last Song. It helps that I kind of love Miley Cyrus, but the movie was excellent with or without her. Charlie St. Cloud & Takers were close seconds.

{three} do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?
I don't use a top sheet. I HAVE to have at least one foot sticking out, and having a top sheet tucked in hinders me from doing so.

{four} do you cut coupons?
I print some off from time to time for Hobby Lobby & Michaels, but half the time I forget them! Grr!

{five} do you ever count your steps when you walk?
No. But I count all sorts of other things. I'm convinced I have a mild case of OCD, but I'm deathly afraid to find out for sure.

{six} what sauce do you dip your chicken nuggets in?
Honey Mustard... or sometimes ranch if I'm a Chili's. There ranch is pretty much amazing. I might drink it! ha ha.

{seven} do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Nope. I used to have one to Cosmo back in the day, but I'd rather read books & blogs. I can't wait for the USPS man to bring me the next Emily Griffin book!

{eight} when was the last time you wrote a letter on paper?
Um, I couldnt even tell you, unless Christmas cards count... if not, then when the hubster was deployed.

{nine} what’s your favorite fruit pie?
Key Lime

{ten} black olives or green olives?
YICK! I think olives are utterly repulsive, but that just means that I will probably like them in a few years. I used to absolutely HATE carrots and cucumbers. Now I absolutely love carrots, and am growing more found of cucumbers.

Horses-As promised

They let us out early b/c the roads are supposed to get super icy this afternoon. We've already got more than the inch that was predicted. They've closed all of Ft Bragg aside from emergency personnel, and they're predicting it will be closed tomorrow as well. It cracks me up that so little snow/ice shuts the whole state down, but at the same time, it's understandable b/c they have no plows, sanders, or any other means to handle this weather down here.

I wish the sun would have stayed out, because when it was the pictures came out great, but instead it was hiding behind the clouds most of the time, leaving a lot of them washed out... but here they are, my big, beautiful horses (and a few of their playmantes)

Prancing around-fighting the saddle

This little stallion loves them

Now it's her turn to be mad from inside the pen

Checking out the horses.
Ty is a catahoula/border collie mix... being a cattle dog is in his blood. This was his first trip to meet the horses. At first he ran right in the pen with them, but they kind of cornered him by the fence & scared him. Once he got used to them he did great.

I sowwwwwy :(

I know I promised I would be back with a picture update yesterday, but we spent more time than expected grocery shopping, and with the threat of snow, I for sure thought school would be cancelled today. Wellllll, at 7:00 when every county around us had cancelled school, I sat down & finally started scoring these assessments we had to administer on each of our students. It took me until about 10pm, then I had to put them into a spread sheet.

I was up half the night tossing and turning, waiting for the no-school call, so I slept like crap. I finally got up at 6:45 and started to get ready. At 6:50, after the high school/middle school students were already at their bus stops waiting in the snow, they cancelled it. Grrrr. Way to wait until the last possible second!!

Teachers still have to go in today, but I pinky-promise I'll be back at some point today to post some pictures. I would do it now, but I took almost 200 pictures on Saturday while we were out working with the horses. Sadly, here it is 7:10am, I have to be to work at 8am, and here I am, still sitting here, playing on blogger! You can clearly see where my priorities lie! he he :)

So stylish!

Photobucket

I've already been given this award, but I figured, why not?! I'll give it a go again :)

A pretty little lady named Victoria over at Our Love Never Fails. Gave me this award. She's a total sweetypie, so if you're not following her, go do so! She was one of the lovely blogs on my top viewed sites list in this post. She posts quite often, and I always enjoy what she has to say :)

Now for the award requirements:
Write 7 random things about myself & pass on to 15 bloggers

1. I absolutely CANNOT sleep with socks on, and I have to have at least 1 foot sticking out from under the blankets
2. Spending the day with my horses puts me into the worlds best mood (I'll be back later today to upload a TON of horsey pictures :D )
3. I can recite the United States pledge of allegiance, in French. When I will ever need this skill, I have no idea, but it's one thing I will never forget thanks to having to say it every day for the 5 years I took french in high school. lol
4. I grew up in a "Right to Farm" community, and I love my home-grown country roots.

5. I am a grammar nazi, but I am the world's worst at spelling.
6. I was in a sorority in college. It was one of the best & worst experiences of my life.
7. I have recently become ADDICTED to Emily Griffin books. She's great, so if you havent read her, I suggest you pick up a book or two by her. I read Something Borrowed in one day, cover to cover.

And now I'm going to be a total cop-out and leave this award to all of my lovely followers who have not gotten this award yet, ONLY because I've already given out this award before :)

Like I said above, come on back and stalk my blog. I will be posting some oh-so-beautiful horsey pictures in a few hours. I have over 200 to sort through since I FINALLY remembered to grab my Rebel T1i before I ran out the door!! :D

"You can't save them all..."

...but I can save some!

I know I posted a really depressing post about the poor puppies I saw on my road. I have since searched up and down the road numerous times and have yet to see the other one. I'm hoping someone picked the other one up, because they were really cute. My mom pointed out that they were really well fed for being strays, so I'm also hoping whoever owns them, found the remaining pup. I'm still going to keep my eyes peeled for it.

So since I posted that depressing post, I thought I would post an uplifting post. All of my animals have been "rescued" in some way, shape, or form. I found Miley, our dachshund at a dirty little petshop here. People would drop off litters of puppies, and the pet shop would sell them. Not like the mall petshops that have a number of different breeds in individual cages. This one only had two litters, the dachshunds & some sort of husky mix. I was asking the lady questions & she said something to the affect of, "Well, if you want one, get it now. Pay day is tomorrow & thats when people come in and get puppies." It wasn't the first or the fifteenth, so she wasn't talking about Army families. She's talking about people who get paid weekly. If you have to wait until payday to buy a puppy (she priced them WAY below what they cost at a traditional petstore) then you don't need to get a dog... and judging by the patrons that were in the store at the present time, I wasn't making any unjust judgments. Not being able to leave her for the toothless woman also eyeing her, I snatched her up, and convinced my friend to take her brother.

Dixie, our pit, came from a friend-of-a-friend situation. We stopped over his house after the rodeo one night, and his roommate had 2 pits left from their litter. They bragged about how they had taught the mother to bite people with guns. He came out with a pistol & we watched the mom turn ferocious & attack him, the dog's owner. This is why people are afraid of pitbulls. It's not the pitbull, it's the owner!! We took her home that night, rather than letting them turn her into a monster as well.

Ty came from a student in my class last year. Her mom has a soft spot for dogs as well. At the time that she let me adopt Ty, she had 17 dogs in her 3 bedroom house. She gets tips from people & adopts dogs out of shelters that are going to be put-down. Ty & his 3 brothers were dropped off at a shelter at 4 weeks old, and were supposed to be gassed when she came to adopt them all. Then, she trains them (she's also a certified dog trainer), and adopts them out. Everyone is amazed that we adopted such a well-behaved dog, and I promptly refer them to her.

This past fall we rescued our two horses from a horse-rescue here. I had initially wanted a paint, but when we arrived there, I fell in love with the swedish warmblood, not the paint. Don't get me wrong, I love our paint, but I wanted the other one more. The hubs, his friends, and the rescue owner, promptly convinced me that I wanted the paint, rather than the swedish warmblood b/c the paint is 5yo, and the other was 21yo. I didn't care how old she was, she came up to me as soon as I was in the pen & nuzzled me. It was love at first sight. When we came back the next day, the man had decided that we could take both for the $400 adoption fee, since he figured that he wouldnt be able to "get rid of" the older one. Gee thanks dude. We later found our that Illusion, the sweedish warmblood has champion bloodlines :) Both were dumped off there when their owner PCS'd and didnt want to take them along. Dicks!

Wow, this post ended up being kind of depressing with who we acquired our animals from, but the point is, I can't save them all, but I can save some animals... even if it is only a few at a time.

I've posted this picture a few times, but its from the day we adopted them, so it's a good point of reference... Look at how boney Illusion was 4 months ago... She looks like such a skeleton!
Photobucket

And look at her today!! Such a fatty! Look at that big ole belly! It makes me so happy to see how much weight we've gotten on her. She doesnt even look like the same horse we loaded up a few month ago.
